Information for participants joining the programmes in the Himalayas

Journey:

i.

Rail Head - Rishikesh, Dehradun & Haridwar.

ii.

There are regular buses for Rishikesh from ISBT Delhi, departs after every 15 or 30 minutes till 10:30 pm (takes 6 hours). Fare in State Transport Buses is Rs. 130 per head approx. Buses from Rishikesh for Uttarkashi are available from the YATRA BUS STAND also called TGMO, from 4 am onwards up to 11:30 am (takes 7 hours). Bus fare is Rs. 95 per head approx.

iii.

Share taxi for Uttarkashi is available from Rishikesh from taxi stand at Natraj Hotel up to 2 pm (takes 5 hrs). Cost of share taxi is Rs. 125 approx. per head and for full taxi it is Rs. 1400 approx.

 

Equipment & Clothing required (should be very light):

In addition to normal winter wear & light bedding for the train journey, the participants should bring with them the following, (items highlighted are essential ones), balance items as required/ available:

Rucksack, sleeping bag and necessary equipment will be issued at Uttarkashi Camp. Your personal suitcase will be kept in safe custody of TSAF store.

Note: Bringing Polythene/ Plastic Material is strictly prohibited in the course

Pre – course training:

No specilised training is necessary. However, trainees must carry out 5 km of jogging-cum-long brisk walk as well as stretching exercise for 2 to 3 weeks before coming on the course. This pre – course toughening up would make your stay in the mountain and the training a pleasurable experience.
